What exactly is HardiePlank® Siding? –That, my friends, is a question we’ve answered literally thousands of times here at Southwest Exteriors since we started carrying the product in 1997. In fact, I answered it so often that my daughter who was 8 years old at the time could answer it as well as I could because she had heard my response so many times. Folks were always amused when words like cementitous and cellulose rolled off the tongue of an 8 year old!
What Makes Up HardiePlank® Siding?
The answer is that HardiePlank® siding is one of the styles of fiber cementitous siding products manufactured by the James Hardie® Corporation. The products are made with the main ingredients of cellulose fibers, Portland cement, and sand.
James Hardie® siding comes in many different styles, such as lap siding, shingles, panels, and trim boards. The James Hardie® siding products also have many different grain patterns, such as wood grain, smooth, and stucco.
The best part about James Hardie® siding is that, although it looks like real wood, it can't rot, warp, burn, or be eaten by termites. And don't forget that woodpeckers, squirrels, and other pests can't munch on this stuff! I'm sure there are many dented wood pecker beaks in the San Antonio area attributed to James Hardie® siding! There are now many imitations on the market, but only the James Hardie® brand of fiber cement siding is backed with over 100 years on research and innovative development in the exterior siding and building products field.
